Köksal Holoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Romatem, made important statements about Turkey's future in health tourism.
Health Tourism Vision from Romatem: Turkey's Future and Targets
Dr. Köksal Holoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Romatem Hospitals and President of the Health Tourism Development Council, made important evaluations about Turkey's current situation and future in the field of health tourism on Fatih Altaylı's program. Holoğlu emphasized Turkey's strong infrastructure in the field of health and the place of health tourism in global competition. He also shared his views on the problems encountered in health tourism and its potential worldwide.
Turkey's Position in Health Tourism and Challenges
Prof. Dr. Holoğlu stated that Turkey has made a significant breakthrough in health tourism in recent years, but in 2023, health tourism declined by 40% compared to the previous year.
The main reasons for this decline include fear of earthquakes, rising accommodation costs and transportation problems.
Turkey Leads the World in Healthcare
Dr. Holoğlu emphasized that Turkey's success in the health sector is based on a deep-rooted educational background and a strong public health system. Turkey has a public health insurance system with 98% coverage, which is unique in the world. This infrastructure creates strong competition between the private and public sectors, enabling the delivery of high quality services at the most affordable prices.
Turkey's Future in Health Tourism and Recommendations
Prof. Dr. Holoğlu emphasized that the following steps should be taken for Turkey to reach a stronger position in health tourism:
- Promotion and Advertising: In order to promote Turkey's health tourism potential more effectively internationally, promotion and advertising budgets need to be increased.
- Quality Control and Audit: It is important for the Ministry of Health to take a strong stance on accreditation, regulation and supervision, and to prevent under-the-stairs services and poor quality practices.
- International Cooperation: It is crucial for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take strategic steps to promote Turkey's health sector abroad and to make agreements with European countries to ensure that their health insurances cover treatment in Turkey.
